What Makes West Kilimanjaro So Special

West Kilimanjaro is home to the Enduimet Wildlife Management Area, a community-run conservation area at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, covering around 752 km². Set up in 2005, it’s become a vital corridor for wildlife moving between Amboseli in Kenya and Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro and Arusha National Parks, and it’s where you’ll find some of the last great-tusked elephants left in East Africa.

This is northern Tanzania at its most untouched wide open plains with Kilimanjaro and Meru rising snow-capped in the distance, and none of the vehicle crowds you’d find in the Serengeti or Ngorongoro. Because it’s community-managed rather than a national park, the rules loosen up too: off-road driving, walking and cycling safaris, even camel and horseback rides are all on the table, alongside real encounters with the Maasai communities who call this land home.

West Kilimanjaro works well as a short add-on before or after a Kilimanjaro climb, or as a unique 1–2 day extension to a Northern Circuit safari. Let Inland Safari Adventures introduce you to West Kilimanjaro for a slower, more immersive safari experience unlike anywhere else in the north.

How to Get to West Kilimanjaro

Most international flights land at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Depending on your arrival and departure time, West Kilimanjaro works best as the opening or closing chapter of your Tanzania safari.
